WORKSHOP ON “VOTING AND PARTY SYSTEM IN TURKEY’S JUNE 2011 ELECTIONS”

Workshop on “Voting and Party System in Turkey’s June 2011 Elections”, organized by International Relations Department, Yaşar University, was held on 9-10 February 2012, at Selçuk Yaşar Kampüs.

 In the workshop, twenty two researchers from the universities of Bilkent, Dokuz Eylül, Ege, Exeter, İstanbul Kültür, İzmir Ekonomi, Koç, ODTU, Okan, Sabancı, TOBB/ETÜ, Vrije, Yeditepe ve Yaşar made presentations.

 In the workshop composed of five panels, Turkey’s June 2011 elections and the results of the elections were elaborated. The main focus of the workshop was on the change in the party system as well as party platforms and EU news in the media following the elections, the political geography of the elections, the change in the ideological attitude of parties and electors, main determinants on voting behavior and the gender issue. In the last panel on the general evaluation about the workshop, it was stated that the regularization of such activities could be a great contribution to the studies on Turkish politics.
