ONE OF OUR DEPARTMENT’S STUDENT, ZEYNEP SİMGE ÖZGÜLEÇ DID INTERNSHIP AS A VISITING RESEARCHER AT İSTANBUL KOÇ UNIVERSITY

One of our department’s student, Zeynep Simge Özgüleç did internship as a visiting researcher at İstanbul Koç University within the scope of 2016 Summer Research Program For Undergraduate Students and narrates the admission process, job definition and the experience she gained as follows:

Within the scope of the program, thanks to which I had the opportunity to work as a visiting researcher for a period of one and a half months, I improved my skills in academic research, learned new things, and obtained more comprehensive information on the academic subjects that I am interested in. I also had the opportunity to meet and build a network with academics and students from one of Turkey’s most leading universities, as well as students from other universities.

First of all, in order to be able to admitted for the program you have to complete the application process fully and  get reference letters from two of your professors. Apart from this, the grade is worth a plus so you should keep them as high as possible. In addition, in my opinion, it is of great importance to write a well-structured and appealing letter.

The program is very useful for undergraduates who are interested in academic research and plan to continue their education in this direction. In Koç University Summer Research Program, I had the opportunity to practice and develop the research methods I had taken as a university course by doing data analysis and coding and working on the data set that I had prepared. I also worked on a much more comprehensive basis by preparing book and article reviews and by developing both my academic literacy skills and my interest. Finally, I met academics at Koç University, learned new things from them and exchanged ideas with them.

The program was also very fruitful for me to see a different campus environment. I spent almost two months at Koç University campus and found the opportunity to experience the dorm life that  I had never experienced before. It was a great opportunity for me to meet new people and spend wonderful time in the settlement of Koç University.

In summary, with the opportunities I had been given by the Koç University Summer Research Program, I earned new skills and I made new friends there. If you are interested in academic studies like me and if you want to improve yourself in this way, do not miss the 2017 applications!
